Prayer Groups

"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest."" (ESV)
Matthew 9:36-38

Whilst we may recognise that we are the labourers for the harvest in our workplace, the pressures of deadlines and conflicting work priorities often mean that Christians struggle to remember God's priorities in the office.

The primary purpose of prayer groups in the workplace is to focus on God's priorities and to support Christians with the 3 Cs of workplace ministry:
  • Compassion for the harassed and helpless by sharing the truth about Jesus Christ
  • Courage to share the truth about Jesus Christ and to stand firm for the gospel
  • Conviction about the certain future with and without Jesus Christ

Prayer Group Format

As we hope that Christians are already members of local churches where they have the opportunity to dedicate time to prayer for individual concerns, this workplace prayer group format is therefore focused on evangelism.  Given the limited time available, we have found it useful to divide the prayer meeting into three specific components.

10 minsPraising God by praying through a Psalm
In order to remind ourselves who it is that we serve and how powerful and compassionate our God is, we read sequentially through the Psalms, one each week.
25 minsFocus on evangelism
Ask for prayer requests from members to share the gospel with their colleagues and for God to have mercy on those who have already heard the gospel.  We also pray for boldness and courage in order to stand firm and to proclaim the truth with confidence to colleagues.
5 minsIndividual concerns
We spend the last part of the meeting praying for any individual concerns that our members may have.

Please contact us if you would like more information or support in establishing a prayer group.  We can also put you in touch with the prayer group in your place of work.
